Cleveland Restoration Society invites its members to our February SNOOP! tour at New Life at Calvary Church, historically know as Calvary Presbyterian Church, one of the few remaining houses of worship on Cleveland’s historic “Millionaires Row.”

The Romanesque Revival style building was designed by distinguished architect Charles F. Schweinfurth and features stained-glass windows by Louis Comfort Tiffany and John La Farge.

CRS did a full-building assessment at Calvary in 2022, and the church began several restoration projects soon after. However, work was upended after a tornado tore through the neighborhood in August of 2023 causing $4 million worth of damage.

While the 1890 sanctuary suffered no structural damage because of the storm, the force of the winds loosened dust, mold and asbestos from the rafters and the entire sanctuary needed to be deep cleaned and new carpet installed.

Calvary’s lead pastor, the Rev. Kellie Sullivan, will recount the story of the storm and its aftermath and longtime CRS trustee, Anthony Hiti, AIA, principal at Hiti, DiFrancesco and Siebold, Inc., will share his expert knowledge of Charles Schweinfurth and Calvary’s design.
